Tour Itinerary
Embark on an unforgettable journey from Cairo to Alexandria, where our dedicated tour guide will meet you at your preferred location, as arranged with our tour operator. Sit back and relax in a private air-conditioned vehicle as we begin your overnight tour to Alexandria. With short stops to stretch your legs, the ride takes about 2.5 hours. Throughout the trip, your knowledgeable tour guide will share captivating historical insights.
Upon reaching Alexandria, our exploration begins with a visit to the famous Pompeii Column. This architectural marvel lies in the heart of the remains of the Alexandrian Serapeum, a large temple built during the Greek era in Egypt. Built mainly during the Ptolemaic Kingdom, the temple was dedicated to Serapis, the guardian deity of Alexandria.
Next, we move on to the magnificent catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, one of the most extensive Roman catacombs. Originally carved for pharaonic purposes and later influenced by Roman architecture, these tombs were used until the late fourth century AD. The cylindrical water well staircase, about six meters in diameter and ten meters deep, descended to explore the three floors of the catacombs.
After the exhilarating historical excursions, we head to the main street of the Corniche overlooking the Mediterranean Sea for a delicious seafood lunch. Indulge in a gourmet meal at one of the finest seafood restaurants in Alexandria, accompanied by a refreshing lemonade. While having dinner, savor the panoramic view of the old port. After lunch, we will transfer you to your hotel for check-in and overnight.
Should you desire an evening adventure, our private tour guide can accompany you on a stroll and a chance to sample Alexandria's famous sweets.
Included meals: lunch
Enjoy an indulgent breakfast at the hotel before meeting your tour guide and personal driver for another captivating day in Alexandria. Today's itinerary offers a unique experience that stands apart from the day before. We start by visiting the Citadel of Qaitbay, built on the remains of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse - one of the World's Seven Wonders.
Unfortunately, a devastating earthquake destroyed the lighthouse during the 6th century, which led to the loss of many buildings and monuments in the ancient city. While the exact shape of the old lighthouse remains a mystery, Qaitbay Castle was built by the Mamluk Sultan Qaitbay, using the lighthouse's solid foundations to establish a formidable coastal stronghold against the Ottoman Empire.
On our way back to Cairo, we stopped by the modern Library of Alexandria, which opened to the public in 1996 with the help of UNESCO. However, it may never match the grandeur of the original library, founded in the early third century BC. By Ptolemy I and expanded by his successor and son Ptolemy II, the contemporary library remains a remarkable cultural institution.
On our way back to the capital, we can take a break and enjoy a hot drink in a conveniently located shopping center. The approximately two-hour ride allows you to relax and reflect on the unforgettable experiences on your Alexandria Overnight Tour from Cairo. We sincerely hope you had a good time.
